That doesn’t stop the game looking good though, especially in this updated version of Relic’s Essence engine. It was already established exactly what the different units should look like, from the jutting jaws and WAAAGH! banners of the Orks, to the gargantuan Space Marine armours. Thus thru the storyline you can have the so fun experience of actually corrupting your own marines, providing the unique view of how a space marine falls to chaos ideaolgy wise.Dawn of War II GraphicsBeing based on the Warhammer 40K universe, the general aesthetic and colour palette was already chosen long before Relic sat down to make a sequel. Much of the gear and secondary objectives (whether to do or ignore, or use or not use) affect corruption of own units. Good solid review, thou I would expound more on Chaos Rising, and the missions. Once you are done with these campaigns, I recommend you read my Space Marine campaign remake for how DoW II: Retribution should have been. However the storyline and dialogue were quite good and linked perfectly with the campaign in Chaos Rising. The campaign in DoW 2 was weakened by the onslaught of repetitive "Defend Missions" and most of the missions being defeat the boss missions.

main antagonist wants to become a Daemon Prince. The whole storyline itself was cliche in itself. The end of the Space Marine campaign was a nice touch, but due to every race having basically the same mission with the same dialogue, the Space Marine storyline was dried out and rushed in this one. And with the missions varying with different objectives and no overdone repetition.ĭawn of War 2: Retribution campaign was below average 6/10. With the storyline richly detailed and actually looking deeply into the mystery of the Blood Ravens. I have mixed feelings toward thq who really do have the talent and know how to actually make a product with the GW license that isnt totally crap, because GW IP video games are usually straight up terrible, but dow was awesome. all i remember about retribution was it was atrocious in this regard and was looking for a thread that adresses its lacklusterness.
I have somewhat of a hankering to revisit this series now for the single player campaign. really just played through once a couple years ago and forgotten. chaos rising was slightly annoying cheap follow up job on dow2, but seemed an arguable legitamite expansion sort of reissue, it just sort of missed the mark in my opinion, but props to the devs for trying a different spin anyhow, meanwhile.there just seems to be no excuse for the steaming pile that retribution story is.
